Farsi Linguist

Farsi/Persian Linguist Suitland, MD


Duties and Responsibilities: The Farsi Linguist will provide Human Translation support, data mining research and assisting in making the machine translation efforts more productive. The linguist is also expected to assist in developing a foreign language training program, support data entry (HARMONY and other DBs), and evolving the CONOPs and TTP for Foreign Language support.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years work experience.

Farsi proficiency level 3 or higher in Reading and Listening, native level proficiency preferred.

Minimum of 2 years translating materials into proper English.

Minimum of 1 year experience demonstrating proficiency conducting data mining in Farsi on the internet.

Minimum of 2 year experience demonstrating familiarity with translation and data mining software for Farsi.

If the candidate is a non-native English speaker, documented English proficiency at 3/3 is required.

Current TS/SCI clearance is required.

Desired Qualifications: Farsi proficiency level 3 or higher for speaking. Native Farsi or heritage speakers highly desired. Knowledge of other languages (Korean, French, German, Spanish). Basic familiarity with standard on-line translation programs (1 year).

Pashtu Linguists Uncleared

Pashtu Internet Research Linguists Reston, VA

Linguists use your research and Internet skills to provide critical information for the defense of the United States. You must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Linguists/Researchers who are proficient in Pashtu and must possess native or near native proficiency in the one of the languages listed below, typically a minimum of 3/3 on the DLPT or equivalent test.

The position is located in Reston and you must be able to work at the required location.

Duties and Responsibilities: The candidate(s) will apply cultural knowledge and subject matter expertise in conducting Internet research on a broad range of customer-directed duties. Develop appropriate research approach commensurate with tasking complexity and customer deadlines using the most effective techniques and tools.

Develop an appropriate schedule to monitor customer-provided websites. Conduct research to identify new websites directly relevant to customer taskings; validate authoritativeness of websites. Monitor assigned or newly identified websites, extract and translate relevant information (including multimedia) derived from key sources.

Structure and synthesize collected data responsive to customer tasking into reports; and select, based on customer instructions, (while conducting routine monitoring or research) material for processing as standalone translation. Apply customer-provided editing and style standards; adhere to customer-provided product standards based on specific product type required by customer.

Iterate reports as required with quality assurance staff to assure product meets customer requirements for relevance and quality. Produce final approved version for dissemination. Produce accurate and grammatically correct translations using good idiomatic English on customer-provided templates and apply editing and style requirements standards. Ensure consistent recordkeeping on all tasks, providing consistent customer feedback on progress.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.

• Familiarity with vernacular Internet associated with researcher's primary language
• Experience doing English and vernacular Internet research; familiarity with Internet tools and capabilities (i.e. Google-earth, search engines, social networking sites)
• Ability to recognize significant developments based on customer requirements
• Ability to conduct independent web research with some oversight and supervision
• Meets linguistic qualifications of primary linguist as defined by customer
• Ability to produce concise, pertinent, synthesized research information into professional, well-organized, grammatically correct, idiomatic reports also consider cultural overtones; requires some oversight and supervision
• Ability to manage competing priorities
• Demonstrated critical thinking and written communication skills
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively in team environment
• Strong computer skills, including use of MS Office and the Internet

Transcribe/translate intermediate level graphic and/or voice language material into modern American English in either verbatim or gisted format. Operate customer furnished transcription equipment in accordance with operational guidelines.

Must possess native or near native proficiency in Dari/Pashto or possess a 3/3 rating on the DLPT. Drafts Intelligence reports for review by more senior linguists. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, and two to eight+ years of relevant experience. Must be a U.S. citizen. All positions will be in Afghanistan supporting OEF-A operations.

Customer specific requirements:
- Consecutive interpretation, into, from and between the required language(s);
- Written translation of general and technical material into and from English and SCRL;

This is an interesting position working on critical programs for homeland security, based out of Fort Meade, MD. Candidates must have at least a Secret Security clearance.

Candidate must be able to gist, summarize and translate foreign language source material. Must be able to transcribe/translate advanced level graphic and/or voice language material into modern American English in either verbatim or gisted format. Must be able to read, write and speak the foreign language at a fluent or native level. Operate customer furnished transcription equipment in accordance with operational guidelines. Draft reports and reviews reports of more junior personnel. May prepare and present technical briefings to customer and upper management. May share language expertise with Government or Contractor Language and Intelligence Analysts, and other personnel as required.

**Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret/SCI with Fullscope Polygraph. Minimum six (6) months of prior, professional translation, transcription or interpretation experience is required.**

Must possess native or near native proficiency in the foreign language or possess a 3/3 rating on the DLPT. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, and five to seven years of relevant experience.

Any prior translation, transcription or interpretation experience would be a big plus.

The Language Analyst will be expected to be able to work independently on lexicon tasks but will also be expected to participate in development meetings as well as lexicographer meetings, and provide recommendations as needed.

We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field. Minimum 3 years experience as an Urdu language Analyst working in the language with level 3 language skills as well as analysis experience. Candidates must have demonstrated research, collaboration and coordination skills. Must have the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and be eager to learn and use new tools for MT development. A working knowledge of morphology, syntax, and/or lexicography is highly desirable. A solid command of the English language grammar and lexicon is a must.

A current TS/SCI level clearance w/ CI polygraph is required and candidate must be willing to take and pass a customer-provided full scope (FS) polygraph. TS/SCI w/ current FS poly is preferred.

The candidate will be working on a government program to build or improve on (machine translation) MT lexicons and MT specific language rules for Urdu. A minimum of 3 years experience of teaching Chinese (Mandarin) to adults in a formal classroom setting. This will be working for a government agency involved in homeland security in Kunia Camp, HI.

Please, we will not accept tutoring, or working in an elementary, or secondary educational setting, you must have experience teaching adults!

Develop and present complex language training materials and programs for customers and in-house employees. Test trainees to measure their progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training presentations. Conducts training programs on complex language and area studies topics and designs and develops training program elements/modules. Provides guidance and direction to less experienced trainers utilizing strong technical and training skills.

Bachelor's degree (in Training/Development or related field) or equivalent and three to seven years of related experience; we are looking for candidates who have direct experience teaching languages in a formalized classroom setting to adult students.

A native speaker with an ILR proficiency level 4 in reading, listening and speaking in the standard form of the language to be taught.

A non-native speaker with an ILR proficiency level 3 in reading and listening in the standard form of the language to be taught.
